As you will probably be aware, Australian Macworld (AMW) has been undergoing some changes in recent months, starting with a new Editor, Chris Oaten.
Australian Apple User Groups have had a great relationship with Australian Macworld over the last few years and Chris plans to continue developing that relationship, which is great to hear. Continue reading »

From memory, the 7200s had Ethernet built-in, so they would be easy to hook up to a network and shared internet connection. Continue reading »

Further to recent discussions, over on the AppleUsers-Discuss Mailing, about donating older Macs to worthy causes, one has caught my eye.
A friend of mine, Daniel Kadane, is gathering older Macs (G3 and above) for re-furbishing and distribution to victims of the Victoria Bushfires.
He has obtained the support of the St Vincent De Paul’s Society to help distribute the re-furbished machines, but first he is need of donations of older surplus machines and software.

Hi All,
Over the last couple of years, many of you have written to me suggesting a number of possible ideas and projects and until now many of them haven’t been practical for me to implement.
Now that I have began a new chapter in my life with the move to Sydney, I have considerably more time and resources to been investigating and actually implementing some of your ideas.
So here are some comments on various projects – and at the end there are some QUESTIONS I’d like ALL MUGs to answer – they should only take a minute (reading the email will take a bit longer – I hadn’t meant this one to become so long – it was just supposed to be a quick heads up 😉 Continue reading »

Presentation Zen Cover
The following is an extract from the latest Peachpit Newsletter… I STRONGLY recommend all Australian User Group Leaders and Presenters register for this FREE Webcast, which will be held on Tuesday, December 16 at 9:00am Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time.
I’ve read the book itself and ALL presenters should read it, if not own their own copy!!!
To be able to hear directly from Garr is a great opportunity, particularly at a reasonable time for us here in Australia… and it certainly cheaper than flying to the US to hear Garr speak (although, by all accounts, that would be money well worth spending) Continue reading »

Australian Macworld
I just received from message Liana, the marketing manager over at Australian Macworld and I thought Australian Apple User Groups maybe interested in getting together to sponsor one of the sections, perhaps First Steps, under an umbrella of “Apple User Groups” similar to the “Applecentre ads” that the now ‘Premium Apple Resellers’ used to run in Australian Macworld
ie a unified ad promoting the benefits of User Groups and then listing the participating groups.
If you are interested in participating in such a marketing opportunity, let me know asap.

Hi All,
A suggestion has arisen from my recent email regarding “Publicity Opportunities for MUGs” that all Australian MUGs look at taking a full page advertisement out in various publications including;
- Australian Macworld
- Australian Personal Computer
- PC User
- Computer Choice
- Australian Net Guide
that promotes the benefits of joining a Macintosh User Group and how to find your local one. Continue reading »
